captioned by the national captioning institute --www.ncicap.org-- a driver plows into a woman in maryland. >> she was laying face down under the trucks. a woman fights for her life as police search for the driver who left the scene and critical evidence left behind. we begin the active search for a hit and run driver. police say he hit and injured a woman last night and drove off. we have the latest on the search
for the driver. >> we do not know if it was male or female, what type of car it was. it may be all honda. neighbors have been very helpful with investigators. we know the woman tonight is struggling to survive. it was just after dark when it was the sound that got his attention. the car sped by. >> i saw a body. >> the woman had been hit by the car. she had been thrown from 30 feet. >> they did not slow down. >> the car never stopped.
there are knows skid marks but a piece of evidence -- no skid marks but a piece of evidence. >> it did leave of mirror. >> they say the woman was visiting a neighbor when she was hit. >> her bones were broken. maybe she was bringing food to us. >> they say there would be little question the driver realize the eventually someone was hurt. meantime, those who live here say this is dangerous and only getting worse. >> if i hit somebody, i stopped. the best thing to do is stop, but the guy did not stop. goo>> investigators say the hunt continues.
while police have not identified the woman, they say she lives right here on the block and that she was visiting a friend just across the street at the time of the accident. >> thanks a lot. fire that ripped through a strip mall caused an estimated $1 million worth of damage. this broke out yesterday afternoon. the businesses in pactiv included a deli, a hair salon, and an insurance -- the businesses affected included a deli, a hair salon, and an insurance office. investigators are searching for a bank robber. they say the robber walked into the bank, pointed a gun at the teller, and demanded cash. officials are not saying how much money. anybody with information is asked to call police. we are on storm watch tonight.
